I haven’t done a personal update in a while, but I wanted to do this one since it involves a big step toward a longtime dream. We’ve been friends of Rob and Wendy McAlpine for nigh past two decades now, and off and on over that time we’ve always talked about ministry opportunities together… “someday.” And it looks like “someday” is finally arriving! Starting in a few months, we’ll be starting a new work together in Medicine Hat, Alberta!

An interesting new research paper examines the role of peer influences on entrepreneurship. Since most entrepreneurs are employed in corporations before they go out on their own, the study examines how peers at those corporations effect perceptions of entrepreneurship and the likelihood of starting a business. It turns out that entrepreneurial attitudes build through feedback loops. The more entrepreneurs that come out of a place, the more likely the other employees are to become socialized to the idea, and to be more keen to market opportunities. This could explain why some businesses spin off many other startups, while others don’t.

It’s a meme, some sort of virus I caught from John Smulo. What’re ya gonna do, eh? I figure it was probably started by somebody trying to sort out who the kinderbloggers were and who actually had a “30″ to report upon. Ah, well.
