it has to be interpreted as a movement toward the gospels since a strict 'jesus first' attitude is impossible. in the gospels we find biblical authors recalling, interpreting and paraphrasing the words of Jesus as they deemed them necessary to the community. we have really got to remember that those red letters can not be read divorced from the early church.

Bob,
I think this should probably be understood as "gravitate to the gospels" -- at least, that'd be my interpretation. This would probably only be a mild preference, a bit of a correction from the Evangelical emphasis on Paul. I don't think Brad intends to say that there's any kind of contradiction viewed or that we're talking about "Red Letter Christians."

Thank you for taking the time to do this Br.M. Your summary and critique are helpful in bringing a cohesive result from the entries to the synchroblog. I especially enjoying seeing your perspective on each of the posts.

"Choose words of Jesus over those of other biblical authors."

????

Because those other biblical authors are so much at odds with Jesus?
Because guys like Paul just didn't "get" the missio dei?
Because the red letters are more inspired?

Nah...
