I was thinking about this song, for obvious reasons. I see the current CD release (right) has a different cover than the original (left) on my vinyl… the CD release originally had the same artwork, but that one was very hard to find… but that’s all an aside. Think on the things which follow…

I have a few questions of my own. Like why it took some 200 Roman soldiers to arrest a peaceful man at prayer in a Garden.

Like just what he prayed. About a cup… and what else?

Questions like whether this garden also had a fruit tree. Like whether he thought about another garden, one with a fruit tree in the middle of it. A garden long ago… one to which we all still yearn to enter.

Perhaps he thought about a tree… a tree beside a crystal-clear river, a tree with twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. A tree whose leaves are for the healing of the nations.

Perhaps he thought about the cup, a difficult one to drink… and perhaps he thought about a marriage feast.

Perhaps after these thoughts, he found the strength to pray again, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.”

Did he arise to the sound of distant footsteps?
