One door, and only one,
and yet its sides are two;
I am on the inside,
on which side are you?One door, and only one,
and yet its sides are two;
I am on the Lord’s side,
on which side are you?
I’m sure that’s going to make the little kiddies want to trust Jesus more…. no, it’s just wrong. Even today, my post-evangelical friends can dredge these up like bad and painful childhood memories. Two different people have pointed out this one in particular, and I remember singing it as well.
Man, can I ever identify. I still run up against this kind of… stuff all the time. We underestimate the impact this has on our formative understanding and practice of faith.
Peace,
Jamie
eek. i never heard this one, thankfully.
Every time I think I’m jealous of my friends who were raised in the church, I hear something like this and then I’m grateful for my somewhat clean slate. That’s really pretty horrifying.
But on the adult side of things we have:
The word of the Lord is
A strong tower
The righteous run
In to it
And they are saved.
from which I am still scarred …. soooooo
We have these videos at home, Cedarmont Kids, with all these wild Bible songs on them. One is “give me that old time religion,” and another is “oh be careful little eyes what you see”
Terrible stuff. Of course, we’re Christians, so someone bought this crap for us.
Pondering all this makes me pause and wonder what those that come after us will be saying about the things we sing about and do.
