I stumbled on an old PBS Religion & Ethics article, Bob Dylan: American Adam. Mostly book review (Chronicles: Volume One (Chronicles)), it gives a good overview of Dylan’s personas over the years, plus a thought-provoking Dylan line from the book: “A folk song has over a thousand faces, and you must meet them all if you want to play this stuff.”

Sorry to intrude, but I actually saw Dylan in concert last night. He actually smiled (quite a bit) – and even laughed a couple times during the night! Miracles never cease. :) BTW, it was a really good show. All classics (even though his new cd is good too).
peace,

local folk might want to try to get to Fargo this Sat – he’s playing in the baseball stadium, part of his small town minor league baseball stadium tour. I think it’s at 5:30. I’m trying to figure out if I can escape a few responsibilities and get there myself. . . Best quote from Scorcese’s documentary is from producer Bob Johnston: I believe in giving credit where credit’s due. I don’t think Dylan had a lot to do with it. I think God instead of touching him on the shoulder he kicked him in the ass. Really. And that’s where all that came from. He can’t help what he’s doing. I mean he’s got the Holy Spirit about him. You can look at him and tell that.

Thanks, Wess — you’re quick on the draw! I got the email notice just a few hours ago and haven’t logged in on the Scribe site yet… will get to that plus the insertion of the coveted Scribe logo on my site later this evening. I see that Shawn has a welcome aboard message posted, which serves to remind me that I really should update my bio so it reads more coherently.
Bill, now you’ve got me wondering if I could sluff off a whole bunch of stuff I’m supposed to be doing on Saturday…. dang.
Dah H — clearly I’m envious. I’ve actually (and ashamed to admit it) never seen Dylan live.

Out of sight man, a post about Bob Dylan! I knew there were many good reasons to regularily read Subversive Influence. Thanks for the heads up on the PBS article.
