Desert Pastor has a post up on Signs and Wonders which puts me in mind of the whole post-charismatic question. Some good discussion going on there as well… but overall the question that lingers is the place for the gifts of the Spirit in the church that is emerging.

When I hear that there is counterfeit money going around, I do not stop using money. I am just more careful and try to sort the good the bad.
The same will apply to spiritual gifts. There is plenty of counterfeit, but that does not make stop seeking the Spirit. Rather I am careful and try to discern the wheat from the chaff.
The emerging church needs the gifts of the Spirit. If we do not have the Holy Spirit moving in power, we will struggle to minister to our hurting world. That world needs love and compassion, but sometimes it needs more.
Blessed Economist…GREAT RESPONSE! As our community is walking through the book of John, we read that miracles are taking place. GOD is revealing himself and people are finding faith. I am with you, especially being in a ‘charismatic’ fellowship. We cannot afford to stop/quenching the Holy Spirit when He is moving in people’s lives…while all at the same time having to use discernment. The church that is emerging needs more than head knowledge, we have a lot of that, we need a encounter/experience with GOD that is genuine and not culturally reinforced or learnt, but moves people on a spiritual level. What that looks like? I do not know, but I am hungering for it. What I don’t want? Is the learnt ‘charismainiac’ response to how “GOD is supposed to work.” Ughhh to be human!
