Jake at Theofragen considers the church and why it is. Reflecting on a quote from C.S. Lewis, he says,
If the church truly exists to draw humanity to Christ (incorporating the manifold implications of such a relationship), then perhaps the manner by which the Church endeavors to accomplish such a feat ought to shift as the culture shifts.
From there, Jake expains why “emerging church” is a less helpful term than is “the church that is emerging.” I tend to agree with this terminological shift, and Jake puts it fairly well. And maybe people will think I’m smart too if I link someone who uses the word “vituperative.” Never mind, I looked it up.
