Looks like the last concert for Father Larry… CT has the story, with concert review (HT: Stephen Shields). Also see the story at Christian Post…. and I see Robbymac just beat me to the punch with an excellent tribute post. And he’s right about having been heavily influenced by Larry in fact he was the first person I thought of when I read the news of the final concert.
For any of you whose first Christian album was not by Larry Norman, either you’re way too young or you ought to be ashamed of yourself. I still have mine, in vinyl, of course.
Famous quote: “Well people used to tease me and say, ‘Oh, you’re a Christian Bob Dylan’. And then when Dylan became a Christian in my Bible study, they’d say to him, ‘Oh you’re a secular Larry Norman.'”
One thing I did not know is that Larry appeared in the movie Beware! The Blob. Live and learn.
Well Larry, we people thank ye. After a long recording career, we’ll miss you… but will ever be flipping back to favorite tracks to listen, time and again. Happy retirement…. and Remember The Tune.
Randy Stonehill was in the Blob, too.
Hi! My name is Tim DeMoss. I’m a disc jockey from Pennsylvania and am in the process of writing Larry Norman’s biography. While I have a lot of material from interviews, time spent with Larry, and so forth, I believe a great way to tell his story is to invite others (like yourself) to share their stories of Larry as well. I did a “Yahoo search, and your link/blog was one of those listed, so I wanted to extend the invitation to you to contribute. Personal interactions, concert experiences, how his music affected you and your friends/family, rumors you may have heard, questions you may have—those are all examples of how you might participate.
The details and background are at http://www.thelarrynormanstory.com. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Please also feel free to forward this on to anyone you believe would a) like to submit their thoughts or questions or b) simply be made aware of the biography’s progress and completion.
Thanks very much!
Sincerely,
Tim DeMoss

P.S. I believe Larry Hagman (director), Burgess Meredith & Cindy Williams (of Laverne & Shirley) were in Son of the Blob too!…
Tim,Larry has been a big influence in my life. I first saw him in concert in 1976 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall, here in Pittsburgh,PA. Tom Greene
of Channel 40 considered me a bit of an expert on Larry as I seemed to be the only one who kept tabes on him via buying his products, etc…when everyone in Pittsburgh forgot. I don’t mean to boast it’s just Larry’s music and talks have been used by Jesus many times to encourage me. I would like to know when your book is coming out as according to Larry’s sight it’s overdue. Recently
when I ordered a CD from Larry,it was faulty,so Kristen sent me 2 extra CD’s plus the one I ordered(a new copy) to compensate. Another story is a few years ago Mike Norman Larry’s son sent me a free copy of a CDR of Larrys and a brand new version of the CD I ordered.Joe Norman also was very kind to me via mail when I asked Larry for advice,Joe was Larry’s father. Such are the kindnesses of Larry and his Solid Rock family. Larry has been my mentor to teach me how to be a solo artist,I have a little music ministry with Young Life of Steel Valley. When I asked Larry about his incredible wisdom of saying things on the net one day,he just said it’s Jesus.-looking forward to your book,Let me know when it’s done. Your brother in Jesus,Ed Lutheran.
I was saved in 1975 at 15 and was kind of disappointed at the music
in the church or at christian bookstores. one day a friend gave me
a tape of larry norman and it really shook my world. I never dreamed
that Gospel music could be so cool and so rocking. Larry’s music has
always been an energy boost to my soul when I get down I think I
pretty much have all his stuff except maybe really new music. he
is going to have many rewards in heaven cause he has helped so
many people come to know who Jesus is . Larry’s music is played in
my home or car everyday .the alive and kickin dvd is a must for
anyone who wants to see the heart of larry norman . thanks sarge
Well at last Larry can now rest the fight is over. At first when I found out in Feb 2007 Larry past away I felt sadden as we lost a great man that seem to loved and cared for others. But now after reading the web regarding Larry secret life and how he had a son from OZ Jen in N.S.W his name is Daniel I am still not sure how to react to this news at the moment. It was a shame while Larry was alive going around like the Jewish leaders did telling us all how to live our lives for Christ and to love one another and telling us how the church is ill. but while he was telling us all this he was going around doing what he wanted and in doing so committed adultery then after his little time of fun his son was born this gift from G-D who he did not want to know. Larry was dubbed the Father of Christian Rock, but he could not bring himself to a place where he could not love his own from OZ Daniel.
So to the Norman family I ask you all this? Where was the love here because right up till Larry’s death he still would not bring himself to admit to his own son that he was the father and give this young lad his rightful place at your Family table? Even today if I am right and now that 2010 is here there is still no DNA in sight as requested? You are all still refusing to do this for your own Flesh and blood. Why is it? Are you hoping that if you prolong it they will no longer have the funds to keep going as you have funds to keep it going you all have control bow of Larry estate to keep this going? You all clam to be G-ds Children yet to date you all are still refusing to do this one act of love for Dan.
To me this is disgraceful Larry committed adultery tied to hide this from us all while he was still on this planet. Larry did not take care of his son or say to him I am your father I love you. This young man is still hurting because all he wants is recognition that Larry is his Father. his rightful place at your table. But it never came now it is unto you the Norman Family now to show Dan his family that you all can do what Paul in his letters said to the church in 1 Cor 13 with out love you are nothing. Your own son, brother wrote this and song a song about it but never practice it by the looks of it. Yet this is what Christ is about.
So why not show it to Dan and his family and fans by doing the DNA test. Yes Larry like us have at times did thing we regret later But in the end it is not what we did that counts but what we do with it that counts Paul all so said love one anther like Christ loved the church. So to be forgiven one must admit what he did was wrong to the body of Christ and Larry never did this. So come on all of you in the Norman Family I ask you please do the DNA testing that way we all can have see what your son sung about was not a lie.
I can assure you this is not going to go away any time soon as you can see it is now starting to filter through it is getting out there and the longer you put this off the more we will not trust you, what solid rock stands for. By not doing this it is going to do more harm then good by refusing the DNA TEST. As it will show you have something to hide and you do not want Dan to take up his rightful place at your table By the way keep in mind Dan had no say when he came into this world, when Larry had his time of fun on the side
It upsets me to see our little Gifts that G-d gave us our children to look after and see them treated as they are nothing more then something rotten that needs to be thrown out of your home. Larry has now gone so it is now up to you all to make it right and give Dan his rightful place at your table. Love him except him after all he is your own flesh and blood and a gift from G-d so why not start enjoying this gift while you can before it is to late. I am very sorry for the ramblings on but I needed to say it how I see it and I would like to think you all would what is right as he is hurting inside.
Cheers Matthew from OZ
