Seven years ago this evening I became a first-time Dad… so we’re celebrating my oldest daughter’s birthday yesterday and today. For anybody who knew me 10 or 15 or 20 years ago, you might be saying, “Wow, that’s weird. Freaky. Brother Maynard has kids, God help us.” And I’d be pretty much agreeing with you. Of course, anyone with kids will also know the weirdness of this feeling of not being able to fathom how the little bundle you brought home from the hospital, like two weeks ago or maybe it was yesterday just got so big and so all-growed-up. All of a sudden.
Weird. Freaky.
My eldest just turned 16. We grok.
It’s funny, because our eldest daughter was sixteen months when we adopted her, and already running. Our youngest, who we are going to get in Septemeber, will be 18 months at that point. So it’s odd for me to think of having a child who wasn’t independently mobile. Thank God they’re neither one ready to drive just yet. Happy Birthday to your little one.
