Why

I saw Michael Card in concert (a Worldserve fundraiser) last evening with friends.

…And why did there have to be thorny
Crown pressed upon His head
It should have been the royal one
Made of jewels and gold instead
It had to be a crown of thorns
Because in this life that we live
For all who seek to love
A thorn is all the world has to give
And why did it have to be
A heavy cross He was made to bear
And why did they nail His feet and hands
His love would have held Him there
It was a cross for on a cross
A thief was supposed to pay
And Jesus had come into the world
To steal every heart away…

(From the song Why) A Michael Card concert is more or less a religious experience; I love how the depth of his thoughtful lyrics takes my mind to a worshipful state. Excellent insights on Acts 10 as well, plus the thought-provoking line, “All true worship begins in the wilderness.” Still digesting that one, but am inclined to agree.

I met Michael Card in the parking lot outside the Emergent Convention last year in Nasville. (He was actually playing at the National Pastor’s Convention that ran concurrently)

We gabbed for quite a while (I told him his 3 CD series, “The Ancient Faith” [“The Word”, “The Promise”, “The Way of Wisdom”] made my

Anyway, my friend and I asked him what places we should hit in Nashville (from a Nashville insider).

He recommended the Bluebird Cafe (”the in place in Nashville for all the natives,” he said) where four nashville musicians sit in a cicle facing each other, and they go around the circle singing their original songs. Only about 100 people fit into the place, sitting right next to the musicians while we eat our dinners. What a remarkable experience that was–Very entertaining. Take it from Michael Card.

If anyone is heading to Nashville next month, check it out!
